Johannes Rau Debates

After the assignment of the name of Johannes Rau, IBB Minsk considers it its responsibility to carry out activities for the preservation of the political and human heritage of this outstanding German politician with the participation of prominent people of regional and federal levels of Germany.
The aim of the debates is to inform the Belarusian public about the initiatives in foreign and domestic policies implemented by Johannes Rau, in view of the specificity of German history, about which of his ideological beliefs became decisive factors and which may be especially relevant for the situation in Belarus. The example of Johannes Rau’s live shows how Germany, being in a difficult political situation after World War II, found a way to the democratic community. It may be possible to draw parallels with the situation in Belarus and try to find answers to pressing issues such as how Belarus should proceed with the Soviet legacy, what role should the younger generation play in politics, which ways exist for Belarus to overcome international isolation and how to become included into active participation in European integration processes.
